When to Avoid Crowds in Paris

When to Avoid Crowds in Paris

Spring is just around the corner and it's perhaps the best time to combine a visit to Paris and Aix-en-Provence. The monolithic crowds don't exist and the temperatures are mild with flowers blooming. The TVG bullet train will take you to both places. Just think, there isn't a line to get into the Louvre.

In just under three hours and at a rate of 180 mph, the TGV bullet train will whisk you non-stop from Paris to Aix-en-Provence. Train terminals are located in downtown Paris and at Charles de Gaulle Airport. The TGV not only alleviates the hassles of flying on a commuter flight to the south of France, but saves you time and money, too. It's inexpensive compared to flying, and it's a very pleasant way to see France while relaxing with a glass of wine.

I recommend that you book first-class TGV tickets as the accommodations are larger, nicer and the service is much better. The difference in price between coach and first-class tickets is minimal, and because of this, Americans usually book first-class. Therefore, book well in advance, because first-class sells out quickly during the summer and autumn months. Tickets can be purchased up to sixty days in advance and are available on-line at Rail Europe, click on train tickets. The website will also deliver tickets to any US address. You will need to book two separate tickets each way, plus you will choose your departure and arrival terminals in Paris. You may also purchase tickets on-line at TGV.

There are nine daily TGV trains each way between Paris and Aix-en-Provence. Upon arriving in Aix, renting a car is a must in order to explore old Roman villages, such as, Bonnieux, Loumarin and Luberon. Time permitting, you might also consider a day trip to Monaco. It's less than two hours away on the A8. (autoroute) Argus Rentals offers all-inclusive rates at their location in Aix. For instance, a three-day Renault Clio rental is approximately $75 Euros and a BMW 3-series three-day rental is approximately $146 Euros.
