Travel for Free: Travel Grants
Filed in archive Budget Travel by Josh Lew on September 02, 2007

Believe it or not, there are ways besides using your own money (or your daddy's) to fund your travels. There are many grants available to those who have a purpose for their travels. I could be wrong, but writing a grant about how you want to enrich your life by drinking Mezcal from the bottle during spring break in Cancun probably won't fly. Preethi Burkholder's post on the Brave New Traveler site has some good information for those interested in travel grants:
Grants are awarded for travel research, humanitarian work, airfare, lodging, education, career advancement, and to cover living expenses while you are in another country.
I have also known several people who were able to perform academic studies in foreign countries while being funded by federal financial aid.
Again, you probably need a purpose for you travels beyond merely "seeing the world," but there is money out there waiting for those eloquent or inspired enough to get it.
