Cities

Bucharest is one of the biggest cities in Eastern Europe. It is the capital and cultural center of Romania. As Eastern Europe has grown by leaps and bounds over the past two decades, Bucharest has become a city with a modern flare.
Revolution Square (Where communism breathed its last in Romania) is at the center of the city and is as impressive for its size as it is for its history. There are countless churches, castles, and historic artifacts in Bucharest. Of course, there is also a modern subway, some great shopping spots, and a world-class clubbing scene. This dynamic between old and new makes Romania an interesting place to travel.
Some of the smaller towns outside of Bucharest have changed little over the centuries.
Bucharest is the gateway to Eastern Europe in more that geographic terms. If travelers are curious about the young/old nations of the former Eastern Bloc, Romania is a great place to start.
