During South Africa's turbulent past, Soweto, the gigantic suburb of Johannesburg was stricken with poverty and oppression. As the video below shows, things are changing for the city of nearly four million.



Tour companies are starting to recognize that Soweto is a viable tourist destination. It has a remarkably colorful culture and is historically significant for its role in the fight against apartheid. Famous leaders like nelson mandelalinks called Soweto home.
