The merger of Co-Op Travel and Thomas Cook seemed to be under a cloud of doubt for a while, but the skies are blue again now.
The Competition Commission saw no reason for the merger to be disapproved and thus gave the final go ahead for the travel into unchartered waters. But now, there may be rough weather ahead for the employees of the travel companies involved.
The Thomas Cook, Co-operative Travel and Midlands Co-operative merger will have greater than 9,000 staff move desks to a new firm. However, neither the Thomas Cook Group nor the Co-operative Travel divulged any more information.
Of as many as 1,240 shops, Thomas Cook's share is 780, Co-Op Travel has 360 and Midlands Co-Op running a 100, of which some shall be, obviously, closed.

US Responds To Travel Restrictions In The Same Vein

There has been a curious response to travel restrictions imposed by the Syrian government on the US diplomats in Syria.
The US government has decided to impose travel restrictions on the Syrian diplomats residing in Washington. They have asked the diplomats not to travel outside of the capital without taking prior permission.
In fact, the US went a step further and demanded that before travelling, the Syrian embassy should "submit a travel approval form to the Department at least seven days prior to the intended date of departure, not including the day the proposed travel is scheduled to take place, or weekends, and federal holidays."
The travel restriction had been first imposed on the US diplomats in July.
