San Telmo Tips

A plethora of leather hats, silver, antiques and handcrafts can be found at San Telmo's outdoor Sunday Market. This market is an absolute must on your list of things to do in Buenos Aires. With the wonderful exchange rate for Americans, travelers to this great city can really splurge without putting a dent in their wallets. Have a custom leather jacket made, dine on a five course meal and purchase silver jewelry for a fraction of the cost in the states.
You will more than likely see an impromptu tango and locals singing in the streets. There are pickpockets in this area as well as other parts of BA, so wear a money belt. If you're wearing a backpack, it's not uncommon for it to be slashed. Wear a smaller one in the front, not on your back. Also, beware of the old mustard trick. A local with spray it on your shirt to distract you, while another will expertly abscond with your wallet.
