The San Clemente Palace Hotel & Resort has been named to the list of the highest ranking Top 100 Hotels and highest ranking Hotels in Europe in Travel + Leisure's 2008 World's Best Awards readers' poll, a compendium of the very best in travel.
The World's Best Awards list is selected by Travel + Leisure's readers whose passion for travel is unmatched. San Clemente Palace Hotel & Resort presence on this list reflects the dedication to delivering memorable and rewarding experiences to its guests. The hotel placed ninth on the list of Top 50 Hotels in Europe and 51st on the list of Top 100 Hotels in the World - and with good reason...
A stay at San Clemente provides guests with large, generously lighted spaces and delightful nooks, haute cuisine, wellness, exclusive shopping and relaxation on the lush green island. It is a great place to enjoy the unique splendor of Venice. It is a favorite wedding and honeymoon spot.

The Island of San Clemente, a pearl of the Venetian lagoon, is situated in a peaceful but strategic spot, right in front of San Marco. The free shuttle service that accompanies the San Clemente Palace Hotel & Resort's Guests from and to Piazza San Marco follows a fascinating itinerary. After leaving Piazza San Marco the boat passes by San Giorgio, grazes Giudecca and then hugs San Servolo. Passengers get a view of the oldest side of the Island, with the Church of San Clemente and its parvis, before reaching the entrance of the resort, where the shore porter is there to welcome them.
San Clemente Island's origins date from 1131, the year the Church of the same name was built, when it served as a starting point for religious pilgrims and soldiers setting sail for the Holy Land. The original monastery where San Clemente Palace Hotel & Resort now exists was home to a succession of religious orders and rebuilt by the Camaldolesi monks in 1645 with the financial assistance of Venetian nobility. A new pavilion was added in the twentieth century, and over the centuries the Island has maintained its atmosphere as an inviting and peaceful oasis overlooking the city of Venice to the Giudecca, with the Lido in the foreground.
A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, the San Clemente Palace Hotel & Resort combines the charm of old world Venice with 21st century amenities. The former 17th century Camaldolesi monastery has been transformed into a three-level Luxury Hotel and is distinguished by captivating open courtyards set on nearly four acres of a centuries-old park.
The restoration of the buildings, executed with the utmost respect for their historical and artistic heritage and the natural beauty of its surroundings, retains the atmosphere of its ancient origins with frescoes and an impressive Renaissance façade. All traces of the Island's history have been preserved in the tradition of a grand hotel for the most discerning traveller. The professionalism of the Staff, with their excellent linguistic skills and awareness of the customs and needs of diverse international cultures, will make every Guest feel thoroughly "at home."
