Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
Filed in archive on February 15, 2007
Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland happens to be one of my favorite places on earth. When visiting, I stay at the
Hotel Staubbach. This Victorian hotel was completed in 1890, and is located in one of the world's deepest U-shaped valleys. When booking a room, request a balcony overlooking Staubbach Water Fall. You'll think you've died and gone to heaven with the incredible view before your eyes. It's bar none, one of the most beautiful spots imaginable.
Moreover, this rugged area is coined, "The Top of Europe." It's home to the highest rail station in Europe.
Two movies were filmed at this Swiss locale. In 1975, Clint Eastwood starred in the Eiger Sanction, and in 1968, the James Bond movie, On her Majesty's Secret Service.
Lauterbrunnen, in Canton Bern, is in the Berner Oberland region. The nearby resort town of Interlaken is your gateway to this area as well as a transportation hub.
