Kite flying is almost a national sport in Indonesia. This is especially the case in Central and Eastern Java, where kite-flying events are promoted as intensely as any other sporting event.

Yogyakarta, a historic city in central Java, will be the home of one such competition next month. Yogyakarta is a sight-seer's paradise, full of Javanese palaces (like the one pictured above) and massive temple complexes.
