Japan's Beach Paradise

Ishigaki is one of the most popular of Okinawa's islands. Okinawa? You ask. That's the place where all the people live to be old because of their diet of kelp and tuna. Isn't it?
Yes, but there's more to Ishigaki than an aging-but spry-population. There is also clear blue waters populated by manta rays. And plenty of restaurants, a couple of which serve what could be called the world's best steak.
Kabira Bay is the most scenic place on the island. The rugged islands and almost glowing blue water is quite a sight, especially when the blue is contrasted with the cream colored sand on the beach. The only problem with Kabira is that you cannot swim there. The currents are known to be quite swift just off shore. There are several beaches with excellent, albeit sometimes crowded, beaches within a mile of two. Many people choose to stay on or near the beaches of the island's northwest. There are plenty of resorts catering to different needs and budgets.
The biggest attraction for divers is the manta ray. There are plenty of dive shops offering guided dives in the coral reefs
that surround Ishigaki. Ishigaki is one of the southernmost places in Japan. But it's still Japan, and, therefore, not cheap. If you are going to dive, though, it is well worth it.
