Neighborhoods

Yes, Cancun is a tourist Mecca. American snowbirds and boisterous (understatement) spring breakers are as much a part of the coastal city as the local population. Most people (including myself) think that "Cancun" and "Quiet" are mutually exclusive.
But Puerto Morelos, a small village not far from Cancun's strip of resorts, is a secret that few Cancun veterans are willing to tell. Close enough that visitors can enjoy Cancun's convenience, but too far to be called the famous resorts suburb, Puerto Morelos offers the perfect mix of quiet and culture.
The local culture of Puerto Morelos is exponentially more authentic than Cancun's, and access to the Yucatan Coast's natural beauty is convenient.
So, if the spring break atmosphere turns you off, consider Puerto Morelos.
