Hopping the Rio to Juarez

Filed in archive Videos by Josh Lew on October 08, 2007

Ciudad Juárez is a border town on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande. It is directly opposite the Texas Citylinks of El Paso. Despite its proximity to the US, Juarez is not a tourist destination. It boasts a colorful, urban culture, but also has a high concentration of criminal activity.
Of course, the promo video does not show that side of Juarez. Still, you'd have to go looking for trouble to find it. Tourists can find plenty to do in the city's downtown.
The Juarez History Museum is located there, as are some beautifully constructed, historic churches. Visitors can even take in some bullfighting if they time their trip right. The downtown is reasonably safe, especially during daylight hours. In general, the usual precautions for traveling in an urban area will be enough to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip.
