Hong Kong Hide-Away
Hong Kong is known as one of the most urbanized and crowded places on the planet. Anyone who has spent a Rush Hour in Kowloon would support that perception wholeheartedly. However, few people know that there are several sparsely inhabited islands near the urban centers of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. One such island, which has been gaining popularity, is Lamma Island.

Lamma Island's main village, Yung Ghue Wan offers a vast array of seafood dishes. As most people on the island are still fishermen, diners are always guaranteed to have the freshest catch on their plate. Most of these seafood eateries are café-style venues. Some of the best sushi south of Japan can be had at Blue Bird Café along the village's main (and only) street.

Lamma Island also has numerous hiking and sightseeing opportunities. A hike up Mount Stenhouse is a bit strenuous, but the unusual rock formations and unbelievably scenic views of the sea make it a worthwhile walk. There are also trails connecting all the island's villages (there are six).

It takes about thirty minutes, via ferry, to get from Hong Kong Island to Lamma, but the contrast between the city's center and tranquil Lamma makes it seem like the two places are hours apart.
