Greenest of the Green in Singapore
Anyone would understand if visitors to Singapore found it too hard to tear themselves away from Singapore's central neighborhoods. Little India, Chinatown, and Orchard Road would take a lifetime to explore completely. However, Singapore's northwest, which is little known in tourist circles, offers a different set of charms. The well-known and respected Singapore Zoo is on Mandai Lake Road. This is the best zoo in Asia according to many, and there is a train to spare visitors from the hottest days. A wilder stretch of land, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, offers a chance for a hike through jungle like terrain to the city-state's highest point. The walk is not that strenuous and wild monkeys may serenade you during the trek.

Another pleasant hike is found at The Botanic Gardens (pictured above). The walking trails are well maintained, and plant lovers will be interested in the various species of tropical flora from all over the tropical world.

Northwestern Singapore lacks the glitz and culture of the other areas of the city, but it makes up for it by showcasing the city's natural beauty. Those who have traveled around Asia know how rare such greenery is near urban areas.
