USA Today's Travel Section recently ran a piece on places you can ski for free – if you're in to cross-country skiing, anyway. And locations range from New Hampshire to California. It's all part of "Learn a Snow Sport Month."
SnowSports Industries America designates January as Learn a Snow Sport month, and many ski areas are offering novices free cross-country ski and snowshoe rental and instruction for Winter Trails Day on Saturday.
