Christmas Tree Lightings
Filed in archive Events on November 24, 2007

OK. Thanksgiving and Black Friday are behind us. On to the next Holiday, right? It is tradition in the next week or so, for many cities to "light" (plug in the lights) of their city Christmas Tree. Of course, everyone automatically thinks of two trees: the Rockefeller Center tree in New York, and the so-called National Christmas Tree in Washington D.C.
The Rockefeller Tree lighting is the middle of a huge shindig including musical performances and various celebs. You can watch it on TV or brave the throngs in person on November 28th.
If you are like most of the people in the world, you don't live in New York. Luckily, most cities recognize the holiday with a large tree in a central location. Some cities, like Indianapolis, construct massive light displays in lieu of one central tree. Many smaller cities and towns also opt for this style of decor. Other cities have a tree. An incomplete, but substantial, list of tree lighting festivities can be found here. Canada's capital, Ottawa, is home to one of the more impressive lights displays outside Rockefeller. Other light-seeing venues include Sydney, Australia and Tokyo, Japan.
Some limo and bus companies offer tours on which passengers can view the city's best publicly and privately funded light displays.
