Globe Trekker is one of my favorite TV shows. Each episode is a kind of travel documentary on a travel destination. The show is produced by U.K.-based Pilot Guides. I chose to show this video because one of the highlights of the program is its music.
The shows are generally informative and the "guides" or hosts of each show have enough personality to keep things interesting throughout. Yes, a guidebook is indispensable when traveling, but watching a show like 'Trekker prior to leaving on a trip is almost as valuable because it gives you a feel of the place.
The series has episodes on many destinations and seems to be geared mainly towards budget travelers. They have a good selection of videos online, though you have to buy (or rent) the DVDs to see entire episodes.
