Cities

I admit that I've always thought of Seoul as a kind of mini-Tokyo. With nearly 10 million people, it is hardly mini (except when compared to metro Tokyo's 30 million inhabitants). It wasn't until I actually set foot in South Korea that it became clear who unique Seoul was, both in its modern culture and its traditions.
What is unique about Seoul is that the new and traditional have found a way to coexist. Architecture connoisseurs will delight in the diversity of the ages of Seoul's structures. This diversity, from a sightseeing aspect, makes Seoul a perfect vacation spot. Add to that the bustling streets and shops, and you have a complete vacation. Its also relatively straightforward to head outside the city limits and enjoy the rugged countryside.
The downside: cold, rainy or snowy winters.
