A Piece of Quiet Beach in Baja
Filed in archive Budget Travel by Josh Lew on December 13, 2007

Mexico has some of the best sea-front resorts in the Western Hemisphere. Cancun, Cozumel, cabo san lucas
. There is sun, sand, and surf, but also world (im)famous party atmosphere. You could be forgiven for thinking that the beach experiences in Mexico are one and the same.
But that is not the case.
There are beaches on the rugged Mexican Peninsula known as Baja where you can almost here the quiet. The sharp edges of Baja's rugged mountains or the odd, lonely cactus might not sound inviting, but, according to Jeff Book of Coastal Living Magazine, inviting is exactly what Baja is. He ticks off a list of activities that includes adventures like kayaking or SCUBA diving and pastimes like hammock sitting and beer drinking on the sand. In short, appreciating nature.
A word of warning. Baja is changing. Sure, some places will always be considered too rugged for development, but the ease with which travelers can find the "unspoiled" destinations on the peninsula may not last. Real estate prices are on the rise and its only a matter of time before people start to realize coastal Baja's potential. Hopefully, developers will stay true to Baja's ruggedness and not make it another stretch of beach synonymous with spring break.
